Three Elvis-look-a-likes may be spotted at the North Pole next month on a 368 mile trek for Great Ormond street hospital (GOSH.)
The ‘GOSH it’s Cold’ team of Jonny Clayton, Alex Tate and Steve Goodair will be enduring temperatures as low as -40C on the three-week Polar Challenge, one of the toughest adventure races in the world, dressed in jumpsuits, sideburns and spangles.
Setting off on 15 April, competitors race on skis from Polaris Mine in Canada to Isachsen Mine, the magnetic North Pole, dragging their 60 kg supplies on sledges through terrain which is home to large numbers of Polar Bears. Specialist equipment is required to prevent frostbite, and a team of tailors are currently working on the Elvis jumpsuits
“While frostbite and exhaustion worry us, a particular concern is that our sequined jumpsuits might prove irresistible to polar bears!” said Jonny Clayton.
The GOSH team was pulled together by Jonny to thank the hospital for saving his son Jude’s life. Jude Elvis Clayton is now a healthy four-year-old. Jonny has already raised thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital entering endurance events including the London Marathon and cycling a leg of the Tour de France dressed as Elvis.
