The Uttar Pradesh government late Saturday decided to ban Bollywood blockbuster Jodhaa Akbar fearing "breach of peace".
"We have decided to ban Jodhaa Akbar following intelligence inputs that indicated a possibility of clashes among communities," Principal Home Secretary J.N. Chamber.
The Hrithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai starrer, released Feb 15, has run into trouble in neighbouring Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following protests by a section of the Rajput community alleging that it has distorted history.
Uttar Pradesh has not seen any protests against the film except one last month in Lucknow.

The compliments haven't stopped pouring in for Hrithik Roshan since Jodhaa Akbar hit the theatres.
The latest addition to the list of people who have praised him is Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
On seeing Hrithik's enchanting trance dance during the qawwalli Khwaja mere khwaja the Big B observed that not since Stanley Kubrick's legendary sci-fi 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 had there been such an apocalyptic moment in a film.
"That compliment just blew my mind," Hrithik told IANS. "Doing Jodhaa Akbar wasn't easy for me. That dance in a trance was especially difficult. When Ashutosh Gowariker explained the situation, I just didn't know how to go about it.
"In that moment of spiritual ecstasy what does my character experience? I was completely puzzled. Then I was told that it was moment when Akbar connects with divinity.
"I joined the singers to dance with one hand pointing towards heaven, which was receiving the divine gift, while my other hand pointed to the ground, which meant I was connecting the gift received from divinity to people down below. I was the medium, the recipient of divine communication," he said.
Hrithik is paired with Aishwarya Rai in this historical romance that focuses on the relationship between Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar and his wife Jodha Bai.

Aishwarya Rai has hit on the rumours which suggested that she has pulled out of Shankar's Robot due to her pregnancy. The Bollywood beauty has not only confirmed her plans to to play lead role opposite superstar Rajinikanth but also rubbished the baby rumours.In an interview to a private television channel, the Bollywood beauty confirmed that she is being paied with Rajini and very much there in the project.
"I don't know why you people are so eager to spread such dubious gossip. The script too is very good so I'm going to act in the role of Rajini's leading lady in Robot. It is my pleasure to act with the superstar," she told.
"After hearing the gossip about my pregnancy, I got numerous phone calls from almost all over the world. Abhishek and I have planned to look at children after 3 years. Till that I'm going to push forward my career," she added.
According to some reports, Ash has been offered a hefty Rs 6 crore to act in the film. Robot will be made in three languages at an estimated cost of Rs. 125 crore.

The 34-year-old former Miss World (1994), who has given a spirited performance in the film, appeared very chirpy and cheerful in the midst of the Bachchans.

Husband Abhishek Bachchan, who flew into Mumbai Wednesday, February 13, to be with Aishwarya for Valentine's day and the premiere, looked dapper in a tuxedo collar black suit, white shirt and white silk tie.

The Bachchans turned up in full force - Abhishek Bachchan with Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan with Jaya Bachchan and Amar Singh with his body guards!
Not only does bahu Bachchan play female lead in the film, 'father of the family' Bachchan has provided the voice over for it.
Hrithik Roshan beamed in a royal blue shirt and black suit. His wife Suzanne and mother Pinky Roshan were with him.
The list of attendees included Aamir Khan with wife Kiran Rao, Rekha, Kangana Ranaut, Ashutosh Gowarikar with his wife and Vidhu Vinod Chopra
"I' m very keen to see what Ashutosh has made on this particular subject, so I' m looking forward to seeing the film," said a very enthusiastic Aamir Khan.
Chopra was seeing it from an entirely different angle.
"I' m curious to see how Ashutosh has handled the Ash-Hrithik combo," he said. Huh???

New Delhi: After Mumbai, it was Delhi’s turn to catch Jodhaa Akbar walk down the red carpet at the capital's premiere of Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus.The film has also been in the news for being boycotted in Rajasthan for allegedly distorting historical facts.
Here's what the lead pair Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai have to say to the protestors.
“I would request all the people to watch the film and this itself will quell all the rebellion,” says Aishwarya.
“It is a film. Grab your popcorn and watch the film. Enjoy,” says Hrithik.
And it sure looked like Aishwarya did do her homework, before stepping out to face the controversy.
“Jodha was documented in five different names and Jodhaa was the most popular and that is why we have titled and taken that name,” says Aishwarya.
If that doesn't end the matter, Gowarkiar also makes his case for the film.
“I would appeal to all the Rajput conveners to go and watch the film. I want it to release in Rajasthan. It does not hurt their honour,” says Gowariker.
While the ambitious period drama has so far received mixed reviews from critics, the Box Office verdict is still out on this one.
Jodhaa Akbar a twisted Planned Controversy by Ashutosh Gowarikar
It was clear when the movie was being made, that the story was incorrect and would create a Controversy. Ashutosh Gowarikar the Producer and the Director of Jodhaa Akbar had claimed in an Television Interview that he had researched the story from the books that were written by the then Rajputs and by Akbar's Followers.He knew if the movie was made in a hazardous manner would alight emotion and passion in certain communities which in turn would make his movie more presentable to the masses. This story was a mis-match and not well served when the movie was made, as the intension to complicate the story with unrealistic relation between the characters.
The surprise is such that Gowarikar has twisted the real history to suit his banking standards, the father in law (Akbar) is made to marry his daughter in law (Jodha).
Starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, the three-hour and 20-minute movie was released in 26 countries on Friday, but banned in Rajasthan, and the fire ranges in North India and Elsewhere.
The Karni Sena there has been spearheading a campaign against the film for quite sometime.
The community says Gowarikar is presenting Jodha Bai as Mughal emperor Jalaluddin Akbar's wife, which is factually incorrect.
According to them, Jodha Bai was not the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber as shown in the film. The princess was the daughter of Motaraja Udai Singh of Marwar and she was married to Akbar's son Salim alias Jehangir. And Mughal king Shahjahan was her son.
The Rs. 400 million movie sparked protests in Patna and Ahmedabad too.
While Pratap Sena, a small Rajput organisation, vandalised a theatre in Ahmedabad, Kshatriya Sena activists protested the screening of the film and pulled out posters at Ashok cinema hall in Patna.
Besides, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal are also up in arms against Jodhaa Akbar as they feel it has ''objectionable dialogues'' that hurt Hindu sentiments. They have threatened to launch a nation-wide agitation against the movie if these scenes are not removed.
The controversy notwithstanding, the film's box office performance is satisfactory, says Ashish Saxena of PVR Cinemas.
''Lot of clarity about the film's performance will come on Monday, but the weekend was fantastic,'' Saxena said.
