Sexy Malaika Arora, Worthless Arbaaz Khan, Ponds, Mumbai Tabloids: A gathering of the losers

April 19, 2008 - Put together two D list actors, a rabid tabloid press, and a vanishing cream brand that is fast vanishing from the market, and what you have is a non event, like the launch of a new product by Ponds at JW Marriott on Thursday late evening, April 17.
Marketing honchos from Ponds, a brand never known for its innovation, came up with a cheap way of promoting their new product - announcing that their brand ambassador, Arbaaz Khan, was set to remarry.
Now what kind of a company would use Arbaaz Khan as its brand ambassador, in the first place?

Anyway, Mumbai's tabloid press went to work on the red herring news, and after much sleuthing, that involved nothing more than a trip to the canteen for tea and samosa to celebrate a day of easy news gathering, went to press saying that Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Khan were set to divorce! How could Arbaaz remarry without divorcing his current wife Malaika Arora, they thought?
The reporters made big suckers of themselves by crediting the news to their shadowy sources, possibly to impress their editors but more likely on the advice of their editors, to cover up their shoddy news gathering.
The truth hit the press home when at the event yesterday Arbaaz Khan exchanged vows with his wife Malaika Arora in a mock re-marriage.
Livid, the press cornered Arbaaz Khan at the event and accused him and Malaika of playing games with the sacred institution of marriage. We don't know about Arbaaz, we choked on that one!
While Arbaaz defended himself Malaika attempted to hide her embarrassment, but then she is not known for her acting skills.
This morning, angry 'journalists' wrote stories exposing the perfidy of the couple, and threatened to boycott them; as if that would do them any harm. Who reads about Arbaz Khan anyway? Not even Salman Khan, we bet, who is reportedly keen to re launch him!
The case of Malaika Arora is a little different. Our readers want news about her, but not when she comes to an event fully clothed, as she was yesterday.
